…is a term you’ve likely heard used by a smattering of reactionary politicians, as well as your granduncle. To anyone who is not utterly engrossed in a hateful obsession with trans people, the notion that there is a “gender ideology” is rather peculiar. There is no true monolith of ideology, and sometimes, they directly oppose one another. Here, I’ll give an example:
One understanding of transness is a narrative of “Born in the wrong body”. This narrative understands gender as an inṅate part of the being, that gender is deeply inherent to the being. This notion is generally adopted by older trans people, trans transmedicalists, typically less progressive peoples, allies, and antipostmodernists.
Another understanding of transness is a narrative of “Gender as performative”. This narrative understands gender as a performance put on for society, and not as an inherent element of the being. This notion is favoured by younger genderqueer, more progressive allies, and postmodernists. Proponents of this concept often regard the previous narrative as old-fashioned, and “Medically objectifying”.
This is just about what gender and their transness entail, and not even what most of this means. To conclude that “Gender Ideology” is a coherent bloc is either stupid or a direct attempt by a malicious party to other a group and reduce it to a nebulous concept of an ideology.
